Working Pattern - Hybrid 2 days per week in the Vitality Sandton or Cape town Offices. Full time, 37.5 hours per week.

What this role is all about:
At VitalityLife, our UK‑based life insurance business, you’ll play a key role in supporting our core purpose: making people healthier and enhancing and protecting their lives. Working within agreed authority limits, you’ll underwrite new and existing business across all benefits, assessing medical, financial, territorial and vocational risks with care and integrity. You’ll manage more complex cases requiring medical evidence, aviation questionnaires and specialist reports, while partnering closely with dedicated Key Distribution partners and advisers across multiple communication channels. Guided by Vitality’s Shared Value philosophy, your work will balance robust risk assessment with a commitment to fair outcomes, long‑term sustainability and positive impact—for our customers, our partners and wider society.
Key Actions
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with brokers, franchise partners and internal systems teams to support the effective delivery of objectives and targets.
- Apply sound underwriting knowledge and experience to make well‑reasoned, confident decisions, ensuring all risks are appropriately assessed and balanced.
- Promote the efficiency and effectiveness of underwriting systems by identifying, escalating and supporting the resolution of system issues with relevant teams.
- Demonstrate a strong bias for pace and execution by accurately assessing and underwriting a minimum of 50 cases per day, consistently delivering timely outcomes.
- Set underwriting requirements accurately and within agreed SLAs to support business objectives and service commitments.
- Make underwriting decisions across Level 1 and Level 2 cases, using effective judgement and problem‑solving skills.
- Respond to underwriting‑related queries from brokers and franchise partners, delivering a high standard of service and support.
- Manage underwriting production across first‑pass and Level 1 (Path) work, ensuring SLAs are met and workflow progresses smoothly through the system.

- Proven experience in underwriting life, serious illness and income protection application.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with brokers and internal teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated environment with a focus on quality and consistency.
