What this role is all about:
Requirements Engineers turn complexity into clarity. They partner with stakeholders to shape, validate, and manage requirements that drive real business outcomes.
As a Principal Requirements Engineer, you will lead requirements definition across multiple value streams and domains, acting as a trusted authority on complex change. You will set direction, ensure seamless integration across journeys, and raise the bar for requirements engineering practice across the organisation.
Key Actions

Lead end‑to‑end requirements development across multiple value streams, from discovery through validation
- Drive alignment on complex, cross‑journey requirements with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Assess and manage change impacts across journeys, guiding decisions to minimise downstream risk
- Own and maintain high‑quality journey‑level documentation, specifications, and models spanning value streams
- Ensure strategic alignment of requirements with organisational goals and delivery priorities
- Identify risks, gaps, dependencies, and optimisation opportunities early in the lifecycle
- Enable collaboration across value streams and delivery teams to ensure cohesive outcomes
- Represent requirements engineering in planning events, agile ceremonies, and technical discussions
- Act as a subject matter expert, coaching and mentoring Requirements Engineers and uplifting standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement, including ethical and effective use of AI‑enabled tools
What do you need to thrive?
- Proven experience leading end‑to‑end requirements development across multiple value streams or complex programmes
- Strong ability to align complex, cross‑journey requirements with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated expertise in assessing change impacts, managing dependencies, and reducing downstream risk
- Advanced capability in producing and governing high‑quality requirements artefacts spanning journeys and systems
- Established leadership experience, including mentoring and coaching Requirements Engineers and setting standards of practice
